Current Jams!

(Photo found from HERE)

A Boston, MA based band, founded in Sept of 2007. Fredua Boakye (Vocals) does things with his voice that makes me weak in the knees. Bad Rabbits fuse futuristic R&B and post-rock for a slick one-two punch. You have to smile and be happy when you hear them!

This five-piece band originally played in the Boston-based band The Eclectic Collective, which in 2007 they reworked and renamed Bad Rabbits.

The band took most of 2008 to write, record, and experiment with new material. They self-released a four-song demo that Fall titled “The Bad EP.”

In Spring 2009, the band entered the studio with producer Jayson Michael Dezuzio to record their debut EP “Stick Up Kids.” The album was completed in Fall 2009 and released independently that December.

Now, May 14, 2013 they released their latest album, "American Love"

Getting Dirty with Tomboy Nails

I am very excited today to be starting off the changes coming to Tomboy Nails with a post about growth and new beginnings!
What am I talking about?
Well, in case you hadn't heard by now, things will be changing around here at Tomboy Nails. I've decided to start sharing other aspects of my life! I will begin blogging about food, animals, household things, outdoor adventures/activities, beauty products, and so much more!

My first new post is to share with you my "dirty deed" from a few weeks ago! (This post has been in my drafts because Blogger was giving me problems with pics for some time!)

I currently own about a dozen house plants. How they keep surviving, I'm not sure, as I'm not the best at remembering to water them as often as they need. But I'm guessing it doesn't hurt that every year we like to re-pot them, giving them new soil, and if necessary, a  new pot to call home! We also add an extra boost to the soil when we re-pot them, by adding some rooting powder to encourage new growth!

This year, we wound up using two types of potting mix simply due to having a bag left from when we adopted two new plants a few months ago. If you're like me, and sometimes forget to water your plants when they need it, the Moisture Control soil is wonderful! It helps hold in moisture, and protects from over-watering. (Never been my problem , hehe!)

You can find all of these products at your local Home Depot store, or online at http://www.homedepot.com/

I am sure you can also find these products, or similar ones, at your local gardening or hardware store, sometimes even your local grocery store!

3 new babies on the right!

Check out how big that snake plant is!!

My aloe is the biggest, we often trim its tips because they bow under the weight of being so big!

Of course I had some help from Mr. Tomboy Nails, and my pretty girl Theia!

What do you do to get your house ready for spring?

Blue Holo Comparison: Chirality CU2+ VS. Elevation Muztagh Ata

I am super excited today to share with you my first ever comparison post!
I received both of the polishes quite recently, having swapped for the Elevation, and bought the Chirality with a recent sale they had! They arrived within a few days of each other. If you've noticed anything so far about me and nail polish, you notice that I love two things most of all:

BLUE!
HOLO!
OMGZ!

Upon their arrival, one night I'm sitting on the couch just holding them in my hands, admiring the beautiful color and trying to decide which, oh which pretty should I wear this evening? As I keep ogling the sparkles catching in the lamp, I realize, HEY- THESE LOOK PRETTY DARN CLOSE IN THE BOTTLE! I wonder how they look next to each other on the nail...?

Thus, my first comparison was born.

My first photo is to show them both in their bottles, outside in direct sunlight, in all their glory. Here you can truly see the difference in color. I'm sure you'll think, "Wait, you thought these were close enough to possibly be dupes? You're crazy girl!!"
But wait until you see later pics!

As you can see, both appear to be super holo- you can see the rainbow reflecting like crazy! But in direct sunlight, CU2+ is definitely a much darker blue, close to A England's "St. George" to my untrained eye,  where Muztagh Ata almost looks like a sea blue.

The next two photos I have to show you are taken indoors, at night, under artificial light. This is when they appear to be closer in the blue color spectrum, at least to my own eyes.

On my fingers: Index and Middle fingers is Elevation "Muztagh Ata", and on my Ring and Pinky fingers is Chirality "CU2+"

And these final photos were taken outside, in direct sunlight. Again, Index and Middle: Muztagh Ata. Ring and Pinky: CU2+.

There are no dupes here! Chirality CU2+ is much more visibly holo both in shade, light, and indirect light. If you prefer a more subtle holo, such as for work, or to just be a bit more low key, then Muztagh Ata is the blue for you! But if you want to show off that sparkle, and love a deeper shade of blue, snatch up CU2+ now!

Both of these polishes are available through their makers still. Elevation polish only stocks 2x a month, but Chirality is always full with stock! You can sign up for email updates from Elevation, and check out Chirality's Facebook page HERE for updates on new polishes, sales, etc.

You can find their shops here:

Pretty & Polished: Pinkie Pie

Happy Tuesday!

I am excited to be sharing with you one of the new (re-released from last year) Limited Edition Valentine's Day polishes from Chelsea at Pretty & Polished!
I was sent a sample mini for review. Mine arrived a little later than we anticipated as some of my mail still tries to go to my old address, and I had to wait for this pretty pink glitter polish to get forwarded to me!

Packed full of different shades of small pink hexes, small pink bar glitters, and fine holo-looking glitters.
I took a few photos in different types of light to try and show how it looks throughout your day. I hope you enjoy!

I layered two coats of Pinkie Pie over L'Oreal's Butterfly Kisses, and Essie's Blanc as an accent nail. Photo above is in early morning direct sunlight. So sparkly!

Mirror photo is of course inside, under house lighting.

This photo was taken in the afternoon in direct sunlight.
And finally, again, under house lighting.

You can find this polish, and many other Valentine's Day treats, from her Shop or on Etsy!

Happy Shopping, and thanks for reading!
